Maxwell Wildlife​ Refuge
& McPherson State Fishing Lake

Board our covered trams for a 45 minute tour out on our Kansas prairie located in the heart of the Smoky Hills where you will experience an up close and personal visit within our Bison herd. Enjoy the native wildflowers and grasses along the way and catch glimpses of white tail deer and other wildlife. The plains Elk are out for viewing November through March. Tour guides are on board providing information about Maxwell and the Kansas Prairie's natural, cultural and historic resources. Reservations required with a 3 day notice suggested to allow for scheduling staff. Sundays and Holidays closed for tours but the refuge is open for drive through daily.  Tours dates and times availability can be found on the "Tour Calendar"  tab.

The Friends of Maxwell is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Tours fees and donations are tax deductible.


Adults: $15.00 each

Children: 11 & under - $7.50each

Children: 3 & under - FREE

Educational Groups $7.00 each - K-12

Colleges :  $10.00 each

discount price includes teachers and attending staff
